FOXTON HARBOUR

MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held to-day, Mr J. Linklater presiding. Also present were Messrs P. W. GoklsnVith, M. E. Perreau, YV. E. Barber, H. Osborne, J. A. Nash and W. E. Carthew. Mr Linklater referred to the death of Mr F. Short, an employee of the board, and a motion of sympathy with the widow and family was carried in silence. Congratulations to Messrs Perreau (Mayor of Foxton) and Goldsmith (Mayor of Levin) on being the recipients of Coronation Medals were extended by the chairman. “They are well worthy of the honour,” lie said. The financial statement as from the beginning erf the financial year, October 1, 1936, to date showed receipts at £2759 5s 9d, including inward wharfage £923 12s 4d, rents £590 15s 6d, No. 5 scheme £3OO 6s. The expenditure totalled £3332 17s 4d, including salaries £241 9s 4d, handling of goods £534 4s 6d, No. 5 scheme £BOO 6s. The' debit balance was £573 11s 7d. The monthly statement showed wharfage fees at £39 12s Bd, compared with £122 6s lid for May last year. Reporting on activities for the period from April 20 to May 20 the pilot (Captain C. Vendore) stated that there had been four arrivals; the lox ton had made three trips and the Huanui one. The Foxton had been tied up through lack of trade. The bar was m good order. There was a discussion in committee on the problem of the Foxton being held up and Mr Osborne and the chairman were deputed to go to AYellington and interview the authorities with a view to having wheat for the district shipped through Foxton.
