WAIRARAPA BEAT MANAWATU. ; On Saturday afternoon and evening the first badminton representative, match between the Manavvatu and Wai-j rarapa Associations took place at Mas- ; terton. The standard of play was j high despite the low rafters in the De- j fence Hall, and it was no disgrace to the visitors that they were beaten by 16 matches to 8. P. Hawkesworth, the kow Zealand champion, was the outstanding player, and though C. Dunn put up a valiant fight, he was no match ior_the champion. The last game of the evening was between W. Jensen and J. _ Payton which consisted of ' hard-hitting and long rallies, with both men exhausted at the finish. R. Duncan and It. Hill were the only two Manawatu pi a vers to win their singles, and Misses 11. McDonald, N. Orchard and Mrs Dunn won in the women s sections.
