“Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hyplnotism, Denounced,” was the subject of the Les-son-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday. The Golden Text was Jer. 15, 20, 21: “I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, said the Lord. And 1 will deliver thee out ot the hand of the wicked, and 1 will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.” Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon were the following from the Bible: “Thus saith the Loru God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and' have seen nothing. Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken h lying divination, whereas ye say, 'The Lord saith it; albeit 1 have not spoken ?” (Eze. 13, 3,7.) Also the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Animal magnetism has no scientific foundation, for God governs all that is real, harmonious, and eternal, and His power is neither animal nor human. Its basis being a belief and this belief animal, in science animal magnetism, mesmerism, or hypnotism is a mere negation possessing neither intelligence, power, nor reality, and in sense it is an unreal concept of ,tlie so-called mortal mind.” (p. 102:)
