SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, April 10. A /necting of the School Committee was held on Tuesday night, those present being Messrs Wildbore (chairman), W. Hogan (secretary), Bcnscinan, J. 11. Cowan, and G. Watkins. The position of the secondary department has been approved by the Education Department until tho end of tlie year, when it will again bo reviewed, and with the parents’ co-op-eration in holding the attendance the school may be raised to the status of n district high .school. After much discussion, it was decided to hold five .minutes’ devotional exercises each morning by the head teacher. On Fridays there will be 20 minutes’ Scriptural reading conducted by the resident ministers. DRAUGHTS CLUB. A most enjoyable evening was spent cn Thursday at the home of Mr and Airs 11. L. Osborne, Kaheke, as a farewell to Rev. A. F. and Mrs Stewart. The time was spent in friendly games. Prior to the serving of supper Air F. Schmidt, on be haf of tho members of the Draughts Club, presented Mr Stewart with a pipe. lie expressed appreciation of Air Stewart’s interest in the game, in organising the club, and in keeping members together. Many happy and enjoyable matches had been played during the winter evenings, and they all regretted their leader's departure from Apiti. Mrs 11. L. Osborne presented Airs Stewart with a dainty posy. In replying, Air Stewart thanked members for the very kind thoughts expressed. IJo said be had always been very happy among them, and was pleased to sec some excellent players among the younger men, who should go far. It was pleasing, too, to note the splendid spirit which prevailed among them all, whether winning or losing. Air Stewart expressed the hope that the members would stick together and continue their activities. Tlie guests of hon our were accorded musical honours.
