VIEWS AT VARIANCE

j COUNTY AMALGAMATION. I Per Press Association. j BLENHEIM, April 9. A curious position has arisen in con- ' nection with the projected amalgamation of the Marlborough and Awatere ! counties, which appeared a possibility following a recent conference with the | Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry). i Considering the subject virtually simultaneously for the first time since Mr Parry’s visit, the- two councils arj rived at decisions markedly at variI ance. The Awatere County Council j resolved to take no further action, and 'the Marlborough County Council, un- | aware of this, decided to approach the I Awatere council with a view to acltiev- ' ing a.n amicable amalgamation, j At the Awatere council’s meeting the chairman said he eoukl not see any use j in reducing the number of local bodies ! unless it was going to make for efficiency and economy, and in that regard lie felt that the Awatere council could show the others the way. “It would be impossible for our council to come to any conclusion with the Marlborough County Council, and we had better wait, for the proposed Court to decide the ma.tter,” lie said.
