PROLIFIC NEW OAT.
PHENOMENALLY HIGH YIELD. In view of the successful results attending trials of a new strain of oats recently tested at Lincoln Agri tiltural College, it is likely lo be grown B a coinniercial scale shortly. The name is Resistance and, from all accounts, the new variety will live up lo its name. This new out was imported from Eng land three years ago and it has been found that the yields are much higher than from the varieties usually grown in the South Island. Trial plots have been giown at Lincoln, Rangiora High School, West Melton, Chorllon, Palmerston North, Ruakura and in Southland. The trials at Lincoln, where six plots were grown, show that cit lias given a phenomenally high yield, and that it stands up well to hard winter conditions. While some of the Garton oats went down at Lincoln owing to the weather, the Resistance stood up well. The yield was nearly 50 per cent, better than the Algerian control plot and was also higher than the Cartons.
