PREMIER FAREWELLED.

DEPARTURE FOR LONDON. PRESENTATIONS MADE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 28. In pleasant circumstances the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) left by the Arawa on Saturday night to represent New Zealand at the King’s Coronation and the Imperial Conference. lie was given a memorable farewell.

It was estimated that close on 3000 persons were assembled on Glasgow Wharf when the ship sailed at 10-45 p.m. The night was a perfect one. with a full Easter moon lighting the scene from a lightly mottled sky'. The harbour was glassy calm. Air Savage went down to the ship early anil after seeing his cabin made his Way to the boat deck, where lie was joined by the Acting-Prime Alinister (Hon. 'P. Eraser), and his colleagues of the Afinistry. Also with him were several, members ot Legislative Council, representatives of various trades unions, delegates to the Easter conference of the New Zealand Labour Party, and a host of others who had come oil board to wish him bon voyage. Other members of the official party were the Secretary of the Treasury (Air G. C. Rodda), Air C. A. Berendsen (permanent head of the Prime Alinister's Department), and Air 0. A. Jeffery (chiei private secretary to the Prime Alinister and clerk of the Executive Council). They were accompanied by their wives. A well-filled wallet from Labour members ot Parliament, a brace of pipes from the Wellington waterside Workers, a cutty briar carved and lidded by Alaori craftsmen, a “Rangatira” ' walking stick from Native tribes of New Zealand, and an inlaid casket from ;i Gisborne family of well wishers, were given to the Prime Alinister at a social farewell at Parliament House on Saturday afternoon, before his departure by the Arawa for the Coronation and Imperial Conference. Gifts were presented also to the Alinister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong), who will leave Wellington on April 6 for Genova, and Airs Armstrong, who will accompany her husband; Mr E. J. Howard, ALP. for Christchurch South and Chairman of Committees in the House of Representatives; and Air F. AV. Schramm, ALP. for Auckland East, both of whom were leaving for London as the guests of the Empire Parliamentary Association. A 1 ESS AGE FROM AIR FORBES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. Alarch 29.
