The third frost this year was experi.enced in Foxton and district this inorn“)g. ■I The Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club patrol was called on for the first time jl this eooson, yesterday morning, to bring ife; ft bather ashore. Just before noon Mr I W. Hussey, of Raetihi, who has been j| on holiday locally, entered the surf for If a swim. The fide at the time was alf: most out and the water was very cold. After a short time in the breakers Mr Hussey was seized with cramp and found himself in difficulties in one of the holes which exist on tho beach at low tide. The patrol, noticing his plight, effected a prompt rescue. Mr Hussey suffered no • ill effects. A successful shop day in aid of funds 1 of the Foxton Volunteer Fire Brigade | was held in Main Street on Saturday. I At a gathering of members of All I Saints’ Church and their friends at the | residence of Mr and Mrs C. H. Symons, j of Lady’s Mile, the opportunity was taken ( to farewell Miss S. M. Lee, who is leavI ing on a holiday visit to Australia at an |i - early date. I ' , Members of the All Saints’ Ladies’ ■ Guild, the Mothers’ Union and represenf tatives of other churches were present. |§ At the conclusion of afternoon tea, which was served by the hostess, Mrs Symons, e who was assisted by the guild members, a the opportunity was taken by Rev. E. i W. Burgin to make reference to the excellent services rendered by Miss Lee, who was called on to accept a handsome hat-box as a token of appreciation and esteem. At the residence of Rev. and Airs E. W. Burgin, the teachers of All Saints’ Sunday school met for the purpose of saying farewell to Miss Lc-c. Mr J E. C. Murphy, on behalf of the Sunday "V school pupils and those present, asked Alisa Lee to accept a handsome handbag. Mrs S. Dustin has returned to Foxton after spending a fortnight with Mr and Airs S. S. Dustin, of Petone. Miss 11. Hinds is on holiday and intends visiting friends at Levin, Te Horo, Petone, and Ngaio. She was the guest of Mr and Airs S. S. Dustin, of Petone, during the week-end. Major and Mrs Cresswell, of Auckland, are on a brief visit to their daughter. Captain Cresswell, of Robinson Street. Aliss Agnes McKenzie has received advice from the Wanganui Education Board of her acceptance as a student at the Training College in Wellington.
