PAHIATUA, Fob. 19. Miss L. White ,*s the guest of Miss R. Williams at Paekakariki. Mr and Mrs H. H. Perkins, of Christchurch, are staying with Mrs W. Scott, of Cambridge Street. A challengo for the Lett Buttons was played on the Mangamutu Tennis Club’s courts last evening when the holders, L. Hamilton and Miss J. Petersen, beat A. Jones and Miss Horrax, the challengers, by 40 points to 34. There was a small attendance at the W.T.C.U. garden party in the grounds of Mrs J. D. Wilson yesterday. Mosdames Willis and Ogg had charge of the “bring and buy” stall. Miss M. Paterson won the potato and 6poon race, Miss Ross the clock croquet, and Mrs Richardson the clock golf. Meedames Roberts, Giasscy, and Gunn served afternoon tea. The garden party realised over £4. Mr V. Kelly took tho chair at a meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club. A motion of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr 15. Sullivan, one of tho oldest members and a life member of the club, and with tho relatives of tho late Mr S. K. Raleigh. A canteen of cutlery, together with a stopwatch for the trainer of the horse winning the Hannia Hack Handicap, will bo donated by Mr W. Kerniek. Mr J. L. Bennett, of Palmerston North, has donated a canten of cutlery for the champion hack race. A decision was made to issue no complimentary tickets to residents of the borough and county. The following judicial committee was elected:— Messrs Connell, Harvey, Kelly, Hodgins, Tiney, and Bentley.
