CRICKET.
THIRD ROUND BEGUN. The first matches in the third round of the senior cricket competition were played _ on Saturday afternoon at Kowhai Park in beautifully fine weather. Despite the ideal conditions and the splendid order of the wickets and outfield, the games proved unspectacular. In the Feilding v. Public Service match, the former batted first and knocked up 100 runs. Replying, Public Service had lost two wickets for 10 at the close of play. On No. 1 ground, Colyton met Feilding Old Boys and in their first strike made 124. They were three men short. Old Boys had 4 wickets down for 96 runs when stumps were drawn. Wesley juniors were defeated in their first innings by Feilding B, who made 183 runs to Wesley’s 69. Following are the details : FEILDING v. PUBLIC SERVICE. FEILDING. R. Carter, c and b James 54 M.
