DEATH BY DROWNING.
FATALITY AT WAITARERE. FEILDING RESIDENT. Unable to swim, Air Harokl Hayden, a resident of Feilding, lost his life in the surf at AVuitarere Beach, yesterday, when, using an inflated mat. he got out of his depth and into difficulties. AA’itli his wife and family, Mr Hayden was spending the day at the beach. AVhen his plight was realised, Mr Hayden was brought to the beach with a lifeline, but though resuscitation measures were applied for over an hour, they were fruitless, and a doctor, on arrival, pronounced life ■extinct. Deceased was the son of Air Henry Hayden, of Derby Street, Feilding, who lies at present seriously ill in the Palmerston North Hospital. For the past 16 years he had been employed by the New Zeala.nd Farmers’ Co.op. Distributing Company at Alarton and Pahiatua and latterly as head storeman in charge of the hardware and produce departments at Feilding. He had lengthy war service to his credit. Air Hayden is survived by his wife and six young children.
