ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. LIBERATION OF FINGERLINGS. A meeting of the committee of the Palmerston North branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society was heal last evening and was presided over by Mr R. W. Priest. Also present were Messrs E. J. Matthews, H. W. Scott, F. Haley, E. E. Ward, W. H. Hosking, W. H. Seward, H. Lane and the secretary (Mr W- R- Procter). The chairman, in referring to questions arising out of the minutes ot the previous meeting, intimated that in regard to the Tararua Tramping Club’s desire to have the Tararua area declared a national park, the matter was being closely watched by the committee.

Mr Priest said that the proposed new rearing pond would probably be constructed at Masterton, and that it would be the most suitable place for it, as the fry would have better conditions in which to develop. The minutes of the last meeting of the Wellington society were read, and a general discussion on various points arising out of the minutes was invited. In discussing the subject of game licenses which had arisen at the Wellington meeting, Mr Priest said that if a license-holder in one district wished to shoot in another district, he could do so by paying a small sum and receiving an endorsement. The subject had, however, not progressed past the elementary stage. In the minutes it was stated that the fish committee had been authorised to liberate up to 1000 fingerlings in December, with a view to determining a policy for future liberations. The secretary asked the chairman what steps were being taken regarding the proposed visit to the game farm. No suggestions were brfought forward by members and so the secretary offered to interview the ranger, ascertain a suitable date and iniorm the committee.

The Wellington council, it was stated, was favourably disposed to the clause dealing with the North Island optional game license providing the license fee is increased from £5 to £9.
