HASTINGS RAM FAIR.

Per Press Association. HASTINGS, Jan. 28. A strong demand was the feature of a bright market at the annual ram fair which opened at Tomoana Showgrounds, Hastings, to-day. Good selling resulted in a large percentage of lots offered and prices wero well in advance of last year’s levels. It was noticeable that tho poorer lines commanded surprisingly good sales, but all types sold well. Top lots, were of good quality, but tho lower quality pens showed evidence of having boon subject to heavy picking over in private sales made on the property. Many of the lots were small, light and lacking in good Romney type. . . The offering totalled over 3100, including pons rom well-known brecdoref from as far south as Invercargill. There was a full attendance of buyers, a great number of whom were from outside Hawke’s Bay. The highest price obtained during the earlier stage of the selling was 25gns. for a fine pon offered on account of Mr C. T. Keeble, Palmerston North, by the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Co-operative Association, the purchaser being Mr A. Inglis, Takapau. The next best price was 19gns. for a pen of-five one-shear rams offered on account of Mr P. \V. Blatchford, Woodvillc, tho purchaser being Mr C. Dalby, Porangahau.
