RAMP OVER RAILWAY.
The Public Works Department and Main Highway Board’s proposal to build a ramp over the Kimbolton Road level railway crossing will be discussed at a special meeting of the Feilding Borough Council on Monday evening, when it is anticipated that strong exception will be taken to tho proposed work. The general opinion of townspeople appears to be that the erection of a ramp will spoil the Kimbolton end approach to the town, while business premises in the vicinity will suffer loss of trade. It is the general feeling that some other method of dealing with the danger of accidents could be planned to meet with a more favourable reception than the department’s proposal. The scheme of building a large'ramp over the crossing is not a method which could be universally applied for the ■elimination of level crossings, it was pointed out to-day. For instance, Palmerston North has two important crossings in the Square and one could scarcely visualise a ramp extending from one side of the Square to the other in two places. The only crossing ot any importance which would lend itself ideally for the formation of a ramp appears to be the Ashhurst level crossing, where the lino is in a depression and on either sid'e the road-is on a much higher level. Sir D. Finlay (stationmaster at Feilding) states that he has received no information whatsoever regarding the proposed ramp. The first intimation ho had that a ramp was to bo uTfnt was when he read the reports in the newspapers.
