PRICE OF PETROL.

FIXED FOR MANAAVATU. AA'ELLINGTON, Dec. 9. An extension of the Government's policy in connection with the fixation of tiie prices of motor spirit was announced yesterday by the Alinister oi industries and Commerce (lion. 1). G. Sullivan), who stated that regulations had been approved fixing wnolesale and retail prices in the Alanawatu district. The district has been divided into three areas: (1) The Palmerston NorthLongburn area; (2) the southern area; (3) the northern area—the boundaries of which are defined in ttie schedules to the regulations. The basis of these regulations is the same as was adopted in connection with the price fixation scheme in Wellington and North Canterbury, where an arrangement was made with resellers for increases in the wages of employees and an improvement in the conditions of employment. AAellington was the first to come under the regulations, and the increased wages and better conditions arranged with respect to AA'ellington were adopted as the basis in determining the margin of piofit in other places. In an interview the Alinister said: “These, regulations are simply an extension of the Government's price fixation policy as far as motor spirit is concerned, anti this will lie further extended to other areas which are now under consideration.”
