(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIRITEA, Dec. 8. There was a fair attendance at tho December meeting of the Tiritea Women’s Institute, which was held at the residence of Mrs Andrews, “Bonne View.” Mrs Andrews presided and extended a welcome to Mcsdames Colpinan and McGuinoss. Apologies for absence were received from Mcsdames Lyle, Smith, and Miss Ogier. A vote of sympathy was accorded the secretary (Miss Margaret Smith) in hor illness, and a letter is to be forwarded to her. In the absence of the secretary, Miss | Hasloch ably carried out her duties. Ar- | rangcinenls for the Christmas tree to bo I held in tho Aokauterc Hall were finalised. ! Miss Kileby read the report oil the recent council meeting which she and Miss Ogier attended. An interesting demonstration on Italian quilting and telephone dolls was given by Mrs Morcoin, of Rongotea. A written competition, arranged by Miss Doris Smith, was won by Miss Kilsby. A competition for tho best article made from a felt hat resulted: Mrs Pinfold 1, Mrs Hastings 3. Tho judges (Mesdames Moreom and Ree 3) were accorded a vote of thanks. The hostesses, Mesdames Andrews and Colptnan served afternoon tea. 'Hie monthly meeting of the institute will not bo held in January, but a picnic lias been arranged to take place at tho Esplanade, Palmerston North.

Despite the unsettled weather conditions which have prevailed latoly, most of the local shccpfarmors have completed shearing operations. Tho three pupils from the Tiritea School who sat for the proficiency at the College Street School were successful. Tho pupils were Zola Toms, Desmond Colpman and Alex Sliere. Miss M. Smith lias returned homo from hospital, having undergone an operation. Miss A. Smith, who lias been engaged in private nursing in the South Island for several months, lias also returned home. Mrs Harris, of Sanson, who lias been staying with Mr and Mrs A. Iloiiorc, lias returned to her homo.
