REMAINING IN BRITAIN.

Mil EDEN’S DECISION. QUEEN CANCELS ENGAGEMENT. Received December 9, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 8. The Queen has cancelled to-morrow’s visit to the British and European Grown Jewels Exhibition, which has been postponed. The Foreign Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden) has cancelled his visit to Geneva tor the League Council meeting on December 10. Lord Cranbourne is deputising for him. A specially chartered aeroplane took three unknown passengers from Croydon to Cannes, but it is denied that they were Whitehall officials. A Capetown message says that both the Times and the Argus call for the earliest settlement of the crisis in order to avert progressively ruinous effects. The Irish Independent says: —“The situation is extremely regretted. In no Catholic country can any support or countenance be given to the remarriage of divorced persons.”
