SALVATION ARMY.

WORK COMMENDED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. S. The Governor-General (Lord Galway) opened a new wing of the Salvation Army’s Bethany Maternity Hospital this morning. The wing provides for 21 more beds in addition to the 181 existing ones. Commissioner Adams, expressing appreciation of the support given by others than officers, thereby bringing the total to £5266 towards the cost of the new wing, paid a tribute to the Government’s gift of £SOO. Hon. P. Eraser spoke warmly of the Government’s appreciation of this work, and Mr T. C. A. Hislop (Mayor of Wellington) spoke enthusiastically of the work done by the Army in the city, stressing its wide field. Lord Galway welcomed the increasing prevention of mortality in maternity cases, and particularly appreciated the work of the Salvation Army in this direction.
