GIRLS’ MUSIC CLUB.

YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Girls' Music Club, which was held last night. Mies M. Grant presided. The report presented by Mrs R. &• Law (president) stated that the year’s work had been up to the usual standard and good programmes had been presented on the whole. The orchestra and glee singers were making good progress and, while the club had Mr Hamilton Dickson as musical director, it should continue to improve. Good work was also being done by junior members, and several members had done well’ in their musical examinations. The club was most fortunate to have St. Andrew’s Hall for concerts a.nd monthly meetings. The half-yearly concert had been successful and it was hoped the success and interest would be maintained. The ciub owed a debt of gratitude to Miss Jola Clark for the splendid work she had done as secretary. Thanks wore also due to St. Andrew’s session for the use of the hall, to the members for their help and co-operation, and to the honorary auditor for his assistance. The financial statement, presented by Miss Clark, showed a sound position, with a larger bank balance than the previous year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of Miss Grant who commended the members for the stimulation they were giving to music in the city.

Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows: —Patron, Mr H. E. Gunter; president, Mrs R. S. Law (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Mesdames Fisher, F. S. Collier, Misses E. Jame 6 and G. McKenzie; secretary-treasurer, Miss I. M. Clark; committee, Misses G. Laurenson, L. McDonald, V. Wood, E. Eyre and Mrs Martin. It was decided that the honorary members should have voting power next year, and Mrs H. C. Morgan was elected to the committee to represent the honorary members. It was resolved to donate £1 Is to the Mayor’s Christmas fund, also £1 Is to the health camp fund and 10s 6d to the caretaker of the hall. An enthusiastic vote of appreciation was passed to Mrs Law for her inspiration to the club, Mrs Collier asking her acceptance of a dainty posy with the love and gratitude of the members for all she had done. Mrs Law-returned thanks. Eulogistic reference was also made to the valuable sendees of Miss Clark as secretary, and as a small token of appreciation Mrs Law asked her acceptance of a fountain pen with the members’ ver.v best wishes. Miss Clark suitably replied. Thanks were conveyed to Mrs Morgan and Miss Grace for acting as scrutineers. Mrs Law' was then called upon to make further presentations to three of the members. In view of her approaching marriage Miss Joan Maunder was asked to accept a crystal vase, Mrs Law conveying good wishes for her future happiness and thanking Miss Maunder for her wonderful help to the club and for the use of her studio for practices. Miss Helen Muir, who is leaving for England in three weeks’ time, was presented with a travelling bag, Mrs Law eulogising her assistance as a soloist and accompaniste, which would he missed, and expressing good wishes for the future. Miss Muir intimated that she might return in 18 months’ time. The recipients all suitably replied. Miss Marjorie Bryce is another bride-to-be, but as she -was

unable to ho present her gift is to be forwarded to her. A most enjoyable programme was presented as follows:—lnstrumental trio, “Scherzo” (Mendelssohn). Mrs B. jS. Law, Misses G. McKenzie and H. Muir; vocal solo, “Lullaby” (Scott), Miss L. McDonald ; violin solo, “Serenade d’Amour” (Tolhurst), Miss F. Howley ; pianoforte solo, “Revolutionary Prelude” (Chopin), Miss I. Cun-in; vocal solo, “Love’s J.ament” (Michael Head), Miss V. Corke; ’cello solo, “Berceuse” (Squire), Miss G. McKenzie ; vocal solo. “The Wood Pigeon (Lehmann), Miss G. Laurenson; violin solo, “Benedictus” (McKenzie), Mrs J. Fisher; pianoforte solo, “Gardens In Rain” (Debussey), Miss H. Muir. The aecomnanistes were Mrs I. Rickard, Mrs H. C. Morgan, Miss E. Eyre, and Miss H. Muir.
