LONGBURN.
(From Our Own Correspondent ) .... ~ LONGBURN, Dec. 7. At; Hie monthly meeting of the School Committee it was arranged that tho usual collection lists be sent out for donations to the sports and prize funds. The departmental grant to school committees having been increased, it was decided to expend this on necessary improvements to the school property. Arrangements for the broaking-up ceremony were left in the hands of the headmaster.
A pleasant time was spent, at the residence of Mr and Mrs Basil Mitchell on Saturday evening, when a large number of their friends met to welcome them back from thoir honeymoon. The function took the form of a surprise party. A varied programme, consisting of games, competitions, and dances, was in the hands of Mr C. C. Yates, of Palmerston North. Enjoyable items were rendered by the following:—Mr C. R. Luke, elocutionary items; Miss L. McDonald, songs; Mr I. Frnser, humorous recitation; Mr T. E. Douds, songs. Miss L. McDonald was the accoinpaniste. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr Yates. Mr L. Buchanan and Mr M. Donald Messrs D. and S. Rowland and I. Eraser supplied (ho music for community singing, accompanied by Mr L. Buchanan on the mandolin. A car competition was won by Mrs Fletcher and Mr K. M. Donald. Mr D. Rowland, senr.. on behalf of those present, welcomed Mr and Mrs Mitchell to the district and wished them every happiness and a successful future. Mr and Mrs Mitchell suitably replied. Supper was handed round by tho ladies. Those present wore: —Mr and Mrs J. A. Mitchell, Mr and Mrs R. D. Knight. Mr and Mrs PL Voss. Mr and Mrs M. Voss, Mr and Mrs S. Nielsen. Mr and Mrs N. P. Nielsen, Mr and Mrs. C. Croucher, Mr and Mrs D. Rowland, Mr and Mrs W. Fletcher, Mr and Mrs Yates, Mr and Mrs K. McDonald, Mr and Mrs C. R. Luke, Mr and Mrs B. McEwon, Mr and Mrs L. Bindon, Mr and Mrs A Buchanan, Mr and Mrs McDonald, Mr and "Mrs W. Birch, Air and Mrs D. Frascr, Mr and Mrs J. Callcscn, Mr and Mrs M. Richardson, Mr and Mrs Anstis, Mrs Grigor, Mrs Wingato, Misses E. Voss. P. Voss, I. Fell, M. Rowland, A. Smith, I. Lovelock, P. Buchanan, J. Barnett. L. McDonald and F. and J. Martin; Messrs A Fell R. Buchanan, G. Mitchell, D. Rowland, I. Eraser, R. Voss, O. Mitchell. S. Rowland, A. Nielsen. Miss T. Lovelock, of I'itzherbcrt. was a week-cud visitor to Mrs Buchanan, of Loekwood. Tho friends of Mr J. Aldcrslcy will regret to hear that, he had the misfortune) to injure an eye whilst engaged in his occupation of glass bevelling. Miss C. Rowland has returned io Halcombc.
