FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

LAMB MARKET STEADY. BEEF QUIET. The lamb market is steady and unchanged. Stocks of New Zealand now very small. Mutton market: Wethers meeting with good trade at slightly higher prices. Ewes: Market steady and unchanged. Beef market: Frozen beef market quiet. Chilled beef slightly easier this week owing to heavier supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Market firm with values higher. Baconer pigs: Nominal. The above report lias been received by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market and-or ex London stores. The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) lias received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week:—The demand and prices for wethers are steady. There is a fair demand for ewes. The demand for lambs is moderate. Large supplies due shortly are having a weakening effect on the market. There is a better demand for chilled beef. Wethers, light, 4-Jd to sgd per lb; heavy, 3|d to 4)d. Ewes, 3|d to 4|d; lambs, 2’s, 7|d to 73d: B’s, 6|d to (yd; 4’s, 6|d to 6|d; seconds, 7d to 7-J-d. Chilled hinds, 43d to 53d; fores, 3d to 3|d.

Quadruplets were born on a farm at Hursthouse Road. Inglewood, at the week-end. Two have died, but the other two and the mother appear healthy. The cow apparently cannot claim a record, however, since a cow in the United States some time ago gave birth to five calves.
