ONE SIDE CLARIFIED.

BUT KING’S WISHES NOT DISCLOSED. Received December 5, 2.31 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 4. Although some quarters regard the issue between the King and Cabinet now as clear-cut, the Daily Mail editorially points out that Mr Baldwin has clarified the issue as far as the Government is concerned, but has failed in an important respect as he has not disclosed the King s wishes. Mr Baldwin announced the entire rejection of expedients suggested out of goodwill and affection for the King with the special purpose of safeguarding his personal happiness and retaining liis magnificent qualities of leadership for tho nation’s benefit. Moreover, the statement contained the further point of immense importance that Mr Baldwin was satisfied that the assent of the Dominions would not be given the suggested change. The Daily Mail adds: Much depends on the manner wherein th/i situation was put to the Dominions. It is therefore necessary that the yommunications sent to them .should immediately be textually published. The King i 6 "confronted with a choice more tremendous and more difficult than any figure in history, namely, renunciation of the Tlrrone of the greatest Empire in the world, or happiness. The British people deeply sym-

pathise. with the King in this hour of iragio decision and realise his anxiety ana griet. They would regard abdication L>y their beloved Sovereign as au unspeakable calamity.
