DEATHS IN FIRE.

EIGHT LIVES LOST. OTTAWA, Dec. 6. A message from Chicoutimi (Quebec) states that seven children and their mother, who was convalescent alter an illness and who vainly attempted to rescue them, were burned to death in llames following a petrol explosion which swept their little isolated farm home. A dog upset a can of petrol in a wool-shed, and one of the family who went to investigate lit a match. The father tried ineffectually to extinguish the flames with a horse blanket. He and a daughter aged 18, also a baby, escaped alive.
