BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS

PALMERSTON NORTH ASSOCIATION. A large number of members were present when the annual general meeting of the Palmerston North Master Builders and Contractors’ Association was held, on Monday evening. The annual report stated that it was very gratifying to be able to chronicle that the building industry had made a very marked improvement during the past twelve months, and was proving to be one of the greatest solutions to the country’s unemployment problems. The past year had been a momentous one from a builder’s point of view, owing to the introduction of the 40hour week and a new Dominion carpenters’ and joiners’ award. Both were now established facts, and the change-over to shorter hours and more remuneration had taken place with a minimum of inconvenience to all concerned. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted ns follows; President, Mr E. Anderson; vice-president, Mr A. E. Allen ; committee of three, Messrs T. Les. Arnott, Lloyd McMillan, and 11. E. Townshend; lion, treasurer. Mr A. Stubbs; hon. auditor, Mr L. Maskary.
