LOW TEMPERATURE.

A QUICK CHANGE. The temperature in the city last night showed a distinct downward tendency and after a chilly evening many residents found the night distinctly cold after the mild weather which has been experienced of late. The -records kept at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School show that in the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. today the minimum temperature was 44 degrees Fahr. On Monday and Tuesday 'the mercury rose to 75 degrees as the maximum temperature. Warm sunshine and a slight breeze to-day made for pleasant conditions after intermittent rains. In the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday 44 points of rain were registered, and to-day’s reading showed 7 points, the total fall having been thus only a fraction over half an inch. The ground received a good soaking and the rain will lie of great benefit to pastures and gardens. Messages from Dunedin indicate that the depression situated south of Banks Peninsula has been responsible for heavy rain, resulting in the highways in the far south being flooded last evening.
