FOXTON BEACH ROAD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOX'I'ON, Nov. 24. Relative to the Foxton Harbour Board's clause which was to have been inserted in last session’s “Washing-up” Bill, to give the board power to contribute £25 per annum to the Manawatu County Council towards meeting the cost of sealing of tho Foxton Beach highway, Mr M. E. Perreau. acting on .behalf of the board, interviewed Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P. Mr Hunter informed Mr Perreau that the clause had not been included in tho Bill because it would have been a very dangerous thing for the Government to do. Tho board, not being a rating authority, had no power to strike a rate for the purpose indicated and therefore could not contribute towards tho cost of sealing the road. The Manawatu County Council had been notified to this effect, said Mr Hunter, but the matter should not prejudice the prosecution of tho work.
