HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.

VISIT TO AWAPUNI HOME. Members of the Palmerston North Hospital Women’s Auxiliary paid a visit to the Awapuni Home yesterday afternoon, taking with them dainties for a four o’clock tea with the inmates. The function was held in the dining-room, which had been brightly decorated by the nursing staff, assisted by members of the domestic staff, flowers having been supplied by Miss Nairn. Coloured paper chains and bunches of balloons were suspended overhead, the tables being adorned with Canterbury bells, Iceland poppies, lupins, roses and delicate fern. The guests were received by the submatron (Miss E. T. Smith) and they derived great pleasure from chatting with the inmates. Tea was concluded with the cutting of a cake, made to mark the first birthday of the auxiliary, by the oldest lady in the home, Mrs Eadie, who is 97 years of age. The cake was square and cream coloured, with greetings, lettered in gold, lemon flowers, and a red cross in each corner. Pleasing items were contributed- by Mrs Fisher (violin solos), Mrs Bigham (songs), Jean Holdsworth (Scottish dances), Zoo Bailey (Irish jigs), the latter two being pupils of Miss Jean Scott.’ A community sing was led by Mrs Bigham. The aecompanistes were Mrs Morgan and Mrs W. H. Boon. Cigarettes were given to the men, and chocolate to non-smokers, while sweets were kindly provided by Mrs H. Sinclair. Mr Loveday, on behalf of inmates, expressed appreciation of the visit and the enjoyment it had given, a vote of thanks being carried by acclamation. Mrs M. Aitchison (president of the auxiliary) voiced the pleasure the visit had given. MONTHLY MEETING. Prior to the trip to the home, the monthly meeting of the auxiliary was held in the City Council Chambers, Mrs M. Aitchison presiding. Also present were Mesdames W. INI. Huntington, J. A. Nash, W. H. Richardson, M. Ashworth, A. M. Wilson, S. J. Parkes, T. R. Moore, H. Sinclair, F. Bennett, J. Stone, J. Barsanti, A. E. Mansford, W. Mouldey, R. A. Bettle (secretary), Mieses M. McLagan, Clark anil J. McGhie. Apologies for al>sence were received from Mesdames E. L. Christian, A. Grigor and F. G. Murphy. Mrs H. Coles forwarded her resignation from the committee, and it was decided to accept it with regret and to place on record appreciation of her services. Mrs Mansford and Miss Clark reported on the work carried out by the sewing circle. Appreciation was expressed by the meeting of the donations of books and magazines received by the auxiliary for Hospital patients during the past month. A grant of £3O from the Palmerston North City Council was received, and appreciation was expressed. A donation of 3s 6d was received from the nurses of the Northcote Hospital, and was gratefully acknowledged. The sum of £42 8s 7d was realised as a result of the recent badge day, it was reported. Appreciation of the willing assistance rendered by the band of helpers was expressed. SCOTTISH INGLESIDE.' Mr F. Duckworth was the chief steward at last evening’s Scottish ingleside, when there was a good number present and the Cosmopolitan Ha.ll was the venue. The' usual orchestra of four players wa6 present, and Mr Paul played the piano for an extra dance. Miss Polglase and Mr Holroyd were the winners of the Monte Carlo waltz, and Miss Chatfield and Mr Ferguson,' of Feilding, were awarded the prizes for the lucky partner Gay Gordons.
