“NEW DEAL” FOR DOMESTICS.
A proposal for a “Now Deal” for domestic servants has arrived at the Social Department of the Norivegian Government. It has been drafted by a domestic servant who has the position of consultant on domestic problems in the Oslo Women’s Council. Her proposal has the following points:— For each public holiday there should be a special written agreement between mistress and maid regarding the amount of work to be done on that day, the agreement to be signed by both parties. The working day should not exceed ten hours, exclusive of meals. Work over that time would be overtime and paid accordingly. The working hours should lie between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. They may bo continuous or broken as suits tlio household, After six months’ service a servant is entitled to a week’s holiday with fid! board' wages; after one year to a fortnight’s holiday,
