TO LARGE CONSUMERS

REDUCTION AGREED TO

The price of gas to large consumers is to be reduced by the Palmerston North City Council to 6s per 1000 feet for all gas consumed over 25,000 feet per month, according to a decision of tho council, last evening. Tho rato for quantities under 25,000 feet will remain the same, 7s 6d per 1000 cubic feet. In a report to the lighting committee, on whoso recommendation the decision was made, the gas manager (Mr J. AV. Muir) stated that the reduction proposal would mean £l2l 10s per annum. INCREASE IN COKE PRICE.

“An advance in the cost of coal having taken place, involving increased costs to the extent of £406 per annum, it was decided, on the recommendation of the gas manager that the price of coke be increased to 2s 9d per bag cx works, 3s per bag delivered, and hulk ecke £2 15s per ton ex works and £3 per ton delivered,” stated a report or the lighting committee presented to the council. The report added: “It was further decided that the engineer be requested to report on the cost of gas and the quantity used for cooking purposes, and also to present a return showing the comparative cost ot gas anl electric cookers and gas and electric boaters.” The report was adopted.
