FALSE DECLARATIONS.

SUSTENANCE PAYMENTS. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Oct. 5. Leonard Isitt AVhiteside, aged 60, admitted in Court to-day making three false declarations of his earnings for the purpose of obtaining sustenance. In one instance he earned £5 14s lid privately and received £1 12s sustenance.

Mr Salmon, S.M., said he had discovered that there was a good deal of abuse of sustenance. He considered that the only proper way to deal with offenders was to make it unprofitable to make false declarations.

On each charge defendant was fined £2, with costs 10s.
