DE GAN'S v. NICHOL. 801-lr principal in to-night’s boxing tournament at the Opera Mouse had their final work-out at Downes’s gymnasium, last night. The American. De (fans, with shadow sparring, hag punching and floor cxercisi s, and the big Australian, Nichol, had the glovus on lor five hectic rounds with Jack McMahon and Allan Darker. Doth contestants ate physically perfect. Nichol has fought only 23 fightis in the whole of his career, and ha.s reached championship form at the age of 21. Me should go far in his profession. De Gans, although only 22 years old. started an a youngster and hais'fought in 185 lights to dale, including wins over Jimmie llamua, ox-lighthcavy champion of the Pacific Coast, and agaiiiist f-omski. another ex-champion. He proposes to return to Australia and finish his contract with Sydney Stadiums, Ltd., and then to England', where any light-heavyweights in the fight game will he welcome to him. He is after the light-heavy title, of Britain and no olio is barred, so long as he has not to. give away too much weight. The amateurs look a most- likely lot and have been selected with the view to getting plenty of action as a preliminary for the main contest!
