TRANSPORT WORK.

OPERATORS’ ASSOCIATION. A well-attended meeting of transport operators was held in Feilding when it was decided to form a Feilding and District Transport Operators’ Association. It was agreed that all holders of licenses under the Transport Department should be eligible for membership, and all present agreed to join the association. It was decided to invite Air IT. J. Knight, of the Road Transport Alliance, to address a meeting in the near future, and the matter of linking the local organisation with the alliance was given consideration. Several matters relative to the effects of the new regulations, and of the new award were explained, and the influence of these on the costs of operation was disclosed. The effects of price cutting were discussed and it was decided to take action and endeavour to secure stability for the industry. A provisional committee consisting of the following members was set up : Atessrs A. J. Geary (chairman), AV. Amey (Bongotea), R. F. Churcher (Apiti), E. A. Garliek (Feilding), 1.. Hill (Bulls), C. E. Robinson (Ashburst), and S. AlcDowall (secretary). . BOROUGH RATES. Borough rates received during the month of September totalled £2122 9s lOd, compared with £1607 for September, 1935. The amount collected in payments of rate arrears during the past month was £317 Ils 9d compared with £2Bl 7s 7d paid during September, 1935.
