(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Sept. 15.

The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held last evening. The watenvorks foreman reported that during the month 3,100,000 gallons of water had been pumped. It woe decided to erect three bicycle stands in Main Street if an experimental one to be constructed immediately is satisfactory. The bad state of the highway south of the borough was commented upon and it was pointed out that it was due to heavy haulage for the reconstruction of the Whirokino highway. The Public Works Department is to be asked to leave the road in a more satisfactory state for the week-ends. The poundkeeper reported etight head of stock impounded during August and 7s fees collected. The clerk suggested that the council should go into the question of having the telegraph pole at the corner of Johnston and Union Streets shifted to make the corner saier. It was the intersection for two main highways and carried considerable traffic. It was decided to writo to the P. and T. Department and obtain a price for shifting the pole. Cr Barron suggested that the council should take steps to carry out the wishes of the Minister of Transport and license all bicycles in Foxton. The clerk said there was no legislation to enable the council to license cyclists, but Cr Barron maintained that it could bo done. It was decided to write to the Minister and ascertain the position. The Chamber of Commerce in a letter asked that a much heavier license fee be imposed on hawkers. Tho clerk said the council was unable to do anything in the matter. The license fees were fixed by Statute. At. a meeting of the committee of tho Foxton Tennis Club Mr S. R. Austin was elected to the position of vice-presi-dent, vice Mr F. A. Mason who is leaving Foxton. Miss.. M. Spoil's wrote tendering her resignation and wishing tho club a successful season.
