FROM TRACK AND STABLE.

HORSES FOR SATURDAY’S MEETING. (By “Spectator.”) Finnesko took no harm from his race at Wanganui, and he is again working attractively at Awapuni. Ho is to raco at Foxton, Reports from Te Aroha credit tho Avondale Cup candidate Lagoon with being at her best. She finished fourth at her last outing, the Jellicoo Handicap. Tybalt is being spoken of as likely to show up in tho Avondale Cup. Since running third in the Dunodin Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting lie has shown considerable improvement in his track essays. . . , ~ Tooley Street will come into calculations for the Flying Handicap at Avondale. At his last start he was second to Prince Acre at the Pakuranga fixturo and he has done well since then. Entheos was not seen at his best on the Wanganui track, which did not suit him; while Sir Charles Clifford’s Polazel three year-old Impersonator should do better on a roomier track. Concertpitch has been kept in easy work since tho Grand National meeting. It is probable ho will appear at Trentham next month. He did not have the best of luck at hi 3 last start.

Mandamus and Surella, two winners at Wanganui last Saturday, are engaged in the Champion Plato at Avondale. Mandamus’s performance in winning; the Trial Plate was good enough to point to the son of Limond—Drastic showing still further improvement. Silver Brier’s wins at Awapuni and Wanganui wore both excellent performances, and the Silverado mare will have friends in the Avondale Cup. Northerners reckon she is better now than ever and that the best has not been seen of her. Horowhenua has only 7.9 to carry in the Avondale Cup. He disgraced himself in the Jellicoe Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting by finishing out of a place when favourite. Since then .his track work has been excellent and he may make amends on Saturday. Morrath has been in work at Awapuni for some time and she has given some line jumping exhibitions over the fences. The Tea Tray mare is entered for the steeplechase at Foxton, and though she has not had a race for some time she is well forward and should give a good account of herself.

Though Royal Secret is back to her best form she has been withdrawn from the Flying Handicap at Avondale. She won the Soafield Handicap, of seven furlongs and a quarter, on tho first day at Wanganui, and on the second she accounted for the open six furlongs race. She was penalised 81b for her successes.

Four two-year-olds by Nightmarch are in the care of P. V. Mason at lticcarton. Daymist is a filly from Starmist; Princess Roma, a filly from Bay Queen; Ilaerepo, a colt from Azalea; and the fourth is a colt from Kilmiss.

Comus, the colt by Excitement from Perion, secured in Australia by Mr Morgan O’Brien, has come to hand very quickly at Riccarton, as the fast times he is putting up indicate. He is an attractive mover. Ilis stable mate Royal Order is a grass colt and is expected to take more time to develop his best form. West Tor had bad luck in the Hlggie Handicap at Wanganui when ho fell over Spiral, who got on to Full Throttle’s’ heels. He had just commenced a run that would have taken him into the fighting line. West Tor is engaged at Foxton and he is sure to bo one of the prime fanciers. Spiral was in a handy position at the time of the accident, many good judges considering that he would havo won. His turn should come soon.

Two-year-olds who raced at Wanganui will have an advantage over the others in the Avondale Stakes. Icing, winner of the Debutante Stakes, is not engaged, but Sigurd, Aiwai, and Girl Pat, who were all prominent at Wanganui, will be all the better for that race. Aiwai is expected to show more benefit from the raco than the others, and the Chief Ruler —Yeomanry filly will disappoint if she is not prominent at the finish.
