WHAKARONGO INSTITUTE.
The monthly meeting of the Whakarongo Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday alternoon, when Airs Joliuneon presided over a good attendance, lhc secretary read an interesting letter from an institute in England which desired to be linked up with the Whakarongo institute. Mrs Larsen gave an interesting demonstration on the making of posies and was accorded a vote of thanks. Mrs Pye and Alias T. Newcombe were appointed delegates for the group meeting. After alternoon tea had been served by the hostsses, a roll-call, “My biggest ,mistake,” created much amusement. Apologies were received from several ladies who were unable to be present.' One new lumber, Airs AlcSavcney, was welcomed and visitors welcomed weie Alia Larsen, Airs Freeman and AJrs Jonson, of Aiorrinsville. The president was appointed to act on the finance committee m connection with tho coming jubilee celebrations in this district. .Mrs Halligan delighted the audience with two numbers. A very amusing competition was held, the results in the married ladies’ class being: —Airs Rout 1, Airs Uhrborn 2; m the single ladies’ class, Afiss J. Smith 1, Miss Vautier 2, Alisa L. Jordan 3. lor the best knitted article to be given away, Airs lye was first, Alra AJeyer second and Mrs Byers third in the married ladies class; the winners in the single ladies entries were, Mias Connie Vautier 1, Alias K. Park 2, Aliss Ai. Vautier 3. The competition for next month is for tho best Aladena cake. AJiss AI. Grant will give a talk on her recent trip to Washington. The hostesses for next month arc Alesdames Oxenham, Mover, Stuart, Flood, and Aiiss Lancaster. A vote of thanks was accorded the hostesses, and all who helped to make the afternoon the success it was, also Mrs Jones for supplying the flowers for the demonstration.
