DIAMOND WEDDING.

Air and AJrs W. Fisher, well-known and highly esteemed residents of I’ohangina, recently parsed the sixtieth matrimonial milestone, the event being celebrated very quietly at their home. September 6, 1876. was the date of their wedding, which took place in the Hawke’sßay district, the young couple removing soon after to Palmerston North, and later to Ashhurst, where they resided for a number of years. Nearly 44 yeans ago Air and Airs Fisher decided to try their fortune in the then unsettled Pohangina Valley and with their young family were the first party to negotiate the swamps, etc., and settle in Pohangina. Soon others followed and a little township eventually sprang up, the houses in those days being on the river bank, the present township site being but a raupo covered swamp. Air Fisher being an experienced bushman soon procured work in the timber mills, first at Air 11. Roberts’s and later at Bartholomew's mill at Komako. Retiring several jeers ago he found plenty to occupy his tim» on his small section, and his garden, which is his hobby, is a model of roderlincss. Both Air and Airs Fisher ha'-c enjoyed good health, though lately Air Fisher suffered an illness from which he is happily recovering. Among the many messages of congratulation received by this esteemed couple was a telegram from the Primp Minister (Rt. Hon. AI. J. Savage) A beautiful wedding cake, illuminated with 60 candles, graced the festive board and it was made and decorated by Airs P. Rap and Miss Murphy. Their family who were able to be with them on the great day included their son. Air \V. Fisher, of Greymouth, Air Pat Rae, a wireless operator on the liner Awatea, who motored up from Wellington for a' few hours, another grandson, Air H. Jefferies, of Ekctahuna, AJrs R. Rac and Master John Rae. The other son, Air J. Fisher, of Frankton, was unable to be present.
