The friends of Mr AY. T. Duckworth will regret to learn that he is at present confined to bed with sciatica.. However, he is now showing an improvement.

The general committee of the Manawatu and AVest Coast A. and P. Association to-day passed a resolution expressing its sympathy with Mr B. C. Eglinton, a member of the committee, in Ins illness.

Advice has been received of the death in Japan of Mr W. D. Cunninghame, tlie founder of the Yotsuya Mission at Tokio. A former resident of Oamaru, he had been in Japan for thirty years.

Mr D. B. McEwen, of Kairanga, was to-day elected a vice-president or the Manawatu and AVest Coast A. and P. Association by the general committee, to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Mr J. F. Knight (Newbury). Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett, formerly Prime Minister of Canada, left Wellington last night for the South Island. He intends to return next Sunday morning and to remain in AVellington until September 24, when lie will leave for Australia. Resolutions of condolence were today passed by the general committee of the Manawatu and AVest Coast A. and P. Association with the relatives of the la.te Messrs A. Dixon and J. Simms, both of Palmerston North.
