(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTOX, Sept. 14. The results of competitions played on the Herrington Golf Club’s links were : —Senior bogey, Airs N. Robinson 1, Mns \i. B. Bcrgin 2, Airs S. R. At a euelne and dance organised by members of the Manawatu Heads Pingpong Club money was raised for tbe purpose of repairing the ball floor. At a meeting of the Borough Council tbe town clerk reported on the working of the gasworks as, follows: —The amount of gas manufactured during August was 312,400 ft, which with the amount in the holder on August 1,15,106 ft, made a total of 327,506 ft. During the month 249,600 ft were uc-ed by consumers, 28,700 ft at the works, and there were 12,371 ft in the holder on August 31, making a total of 291,671 ft accounted for, and leaving 35,835 ft, representing 10.94 per cent, unaccounted for. Thirtyone ton of coal were carbonised, yielding 10,077 cubic feet of gas to the ton.

Aliss B. Hunt, who has been an inmate of tbe Palmerston North Hospital, has returned home.

There passed away in the Palmerston North Hospital, last evening, a well-known Foxton resident in the person of Air William Wallbutton. He was born at Upper Hutt in 1871 and accompanied his father to Foxton as a lad. One of the pioneers of Wellington, deceased’s father was a wheelwright bv trade, and assisted in the construction of tbe first tramline between Foxton and Palmerston North. Afterwards he was ongaged as a wheelwright locally. Mr William Wallbutton spent practically all his life in Foxton and followed flaxwork until 1916, when he entered into a carrying business on his own account which he continued until a week or so ago, when he entered the Palmerston North Hospital and underwent an operation.
