OHIO GIRL.
HERO MEDAL FROM LEGION OF HONOUR. The award of the Army and Navy Legion of Honour medal to 12-year-old Katherine Van Horn of White Cottage, Ohio, was announced recently by National Commander Ralph W. Robart, of Boston. The medal, which is r*,arded annually for the most heroic deed by an American youth during the year, will be presented by President Roosevelt some time in September. Katherine was also the guest of honour at the Legion convention held in Cincinnati from August 30 to September 2. fn announcing the award, Mr Robart said that it was made not only because of her courage, but because of her quick thinking as she threw herself upon a s’ed last winter which was speeding with two boys directly in front of an express train—thus changing the course of the sled and preventing an accident.
