OPTIMISTS’ CLUB.
The weekly meeting of the Optimists’ Club was held on Tuesday, when a large number met under the chairmanship of Optimist J. B. Smillie. Mr F. Walker was welcomed as a visitor and an apology for absence was received from Optimist K. Struthers. The speaker was Mr J. Edwards, who spoke on the liner Queen Mary. Many points of interest in connection with this huge vessel were explained by Mr Edwards. As a means of comparison Mr Edwards stated that if the bows of the Queen Mary were placed at the entrance to the Mayfair Theatre, her stern would reach nearly to Princess Street, while the width of the vessel'was equal to the distance between the Bank of Australasia and the Post Office.
