INVITATION TO GENEVA.
NEW ZEALANDER HONOURED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. By special invitation from the League of Nations, Dr. R. R. D. Milligan, president of the Christchurch branch of the League of Nations Union, will attend the meeting of the Assembly of the League at Geneva in September. Dr. Milligan i-cc«"'vml th v > invitation by cable on Sunday, and will leave for Europe on Monday. Dr. Milligan’s cablegram, m,n, M. Joseph Avenol, Secretary-General .of the League of Nations, invited him to attend the session of the Assembly as collaborator with the Secretariat. His visit is in no way connected with that of the official delegation being sent by the New Zealand Government, for in his case the initiative comes directly from the League itself. Dr. Milligan will be temporarily attached to the staff of the League. It is not a permanent appointment, for the terms are limited to a month from September 17, but it will enable him to study the work of the League at close quarters. Dr. Milligan had not expected the invitation, hut is gratified to have received it because of his great interest in the League over a period of vears.
CONGRATULATIONS FROM PALMERSTON NORTH. Dr Milligan has been in touch for some time past with a member of the council of Palmerston North branch of the League of Nations Union and in a letter dated July 28, expresses'great interest in the reforming of the Palmerston T ovt\i branch He adds:— “What you and I arc striving f o v' now is to secure the very existence of our children against the .warmoimcrs’ preparations. As I sc ' e it, tlie critical (joint is to cultivate ill ourselves and in others, .where we can, a readiness to accept the. rule of law in international affairs as we do in national affairs.” ;(■ ~ The Palmerston North branch forwnrded a telegram of congratulation to Dr Milligan tins morning.
