WELLINGTON, July 14. The applications by jewellers, engravers, die sinkers, and tie manufacturers for an extension of the 40 hour week were refused by the Arbitration Court. Over forty coal gas manufacturing organisations applied for an extension, but 22 applications from the smaller works were adjourned alter it had been stated that they would probably be included under Schedule 2 oi the I'actories Act. The hearing of the other applications is proceeding.
