Tlio monthly meeting of the Alarton Borough Council was held last evening, the Alayor (Air F. Purnell) presiding. In response to a circular letter from the Alinister of Internal Affairs (Hon. AY. E. Parry) as to Arbor Day being celebrated on August 5, it-was decided to carry out planting of trees. A donation of trees was received with thanks from Air Carpenter (Kakariki). The Petono Borough Council suggested that the Municipal Association make representations to the Government for relief to bo given to natepayers from the burden of hospital rates. The Afavor commented that the cost was an unavoidable one. and the public had to pay, in whatever form the levy was made. Local body administration was possibly the most economical means of raising the money. All application from Mr J. Hunt, supported hv tlio secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, for permission to trap opossums in the Alarton Park, I was not granted. An invitation was received from the Afa.rton Municipal Eire Brigade to attend a gathering for the purpose of making a. presentation of a 25 years’ service medal to the superintendent. Air R. A. The ceremony was performed by A r en. Archdeacon J. R. A'oung. Earlv in the month the wedding tank i-i R.-e of Mollv Catherine third daughter of Airs and the late Air Eian Mr, Trevor, of Turakina V alley and Keith I*3most, eldest son of the late Mi and Mrs A. J. Reynolds, formerly ot AVairarapa. Rev. C. AV. AVatt, of Turakimi, officiated. In view of the fact that Airs and Aliss AVindleburn are leaving Marton shortly for AVellington, a gathering was organised, last evening, by the Presbyterian AVomen’s Alissionary Union, the Sunday school teachers and the cdioir to show appreciation of their loyal membership of the church over a long period of years. A leather handbag was pres -nted to Airs AVindleburn by Airs J. Hunter, and Miss AVindleburn was the recipient of an• umbrella.
