While the English champion Hereford,'bull, Flashlight, which has been purchased by Hutchison Brothers, of Waihuka Gorge, Gisborne, cost 650 guineas in sterling, it will cost well into lour figures in New Zealand currency, by the time it reaches the Dominion. A previous importation for plie Waihuka Stud, Pauton .Janies, also cost more than 1000 guineas by the time it reached Gisborne. 'l’he next highest bidder for Flashlight at the auction was an Argentine buyer, but when Hutchison Brothers gave instructions for the purchase of the best hull obtainable, regarless of price, tlie Argentine bidder ceased activities. Flashlight was selected by Mr Craig Tanner, who owns one of the lest Hereford herds in England, and who has judged at many of the most important stud shows in North and South America and England.
