BRITISH ATHLETES.
FOR OLYMPIC GAMES. A SPLENDID TEAM. Received July 13, 1 p.m. LONDON, July 12. D. 0. Finlay, has been appointed captain of the British Olympic track team. He is one of the finest athletes produced by the Air Force, which he joined as an aircraftsman, and is now pilotofficer. The team, which critics declare is the finest Britain has ever sent to the Olympiad, includes the majority of the placed competitors at the championships, with the best losers where the first three were not wholly British. Sweeney, Holmes, and A. Pennington (Oxford University) will compete in the 100 and 200 metres; Brown, Rampling, and Roberts in the 400 metres; Powell, Handley, and B. McCabe in the 800 metres; Wopdorson. Graham, and Cornes in the 1500 metres; Ward, Reeve, and Close in the 5000 metres; Burns, J. Eaton, and J. Potts, in the 10,000 metres; Robertson, Harper, and A. Morris in the marathon; Finlay, Pilbrow. and Thornton, in the 110 metres hurdles; Sheffield, in the 400 metres hurdles; West, in the high jump; Traynor, in the long jump; Boyce, in the hop, step, and jump; and Webster in the pole vault.
