(From Our Own Correspondent.) POI-lANGINA, July 11. Another of the fortniglitly.scrios of euchre, ping-pong and dance parties was bold on Friday in tbe Hall. There was a large attendance. Although the night was very cold out of' doors, the big. log flic in the supper room, kept Jack Frost at bay, at least for the euchre players. The winners of this game in the ladies’ section was Airs G. Thomson; the consolation prize was won by Airs G. Klink, oil a replay, from Mrs T. Harland. In the men’s section. Air J. Dawson annexed tbe first prize and Mr G. Thomson received the consolation prize. Interesting play was witnessed in the ping pong seel ion, Aliss E. Trass winning tbe ladies’ trophy and Mr V. A meeting of tlie Pohangina Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held on Wednesday at “Ben Alo.hr,” the home of Mrs N. H. Moar. There was a full meeting, of members, Mrs F’oston presiding. A visitor, Aliss Nell'io Tucker, was welcomed. Interesting letters were read from Sister Ethel Ale All Ilan, of Choiscul, and Sister Lina Jones, r f Rjviana. A musical competition, arranged by Miss Alacidison, was won by All's Foston. Aliss N. Tucker rendered a solo, “\ 7 a10,” which was enjoyed. Afternoon tea was served by the hostess, and a social chat round a blazing fire concluded a pleasant afternoon. Rev. C A. Foston, on behalf of members, thanked Airs Moar' for her hospitality. Mrs G.‘ Duminoiid invited members to meet, at her heme for tlie August gathering. This will take tlie form of a surprise bring and buy afternoon. The monthly meeting of the Pohangina Valley branch of tho Farmers’ Union was held on .Saturday evening, Air J. D. Balmer presiding over a fair attendance. The monthly report of the executive committee was considered. Air Balmer stated that remits from the branch had been considered by the executive and had been forwarded to the Dominion executive with recommendations for favourable consideration. The question of greater co-opera-tion betwoen tlie union and. the mutual insurance association was disecsscd, tho branch favouring this. The question of wages and hours of farm workers and guaranteed prices were discussed and, on tho motion of tho president, it was decided to hold a meeting of the branch early in August when more information on the subjects will bo available. Messrs J. D. Galvin and R. Culling, o.f Pohangina, were visitors to Wellington for the races. Air 11. Wright, of Pohangina, has left to take up a position at Bulls. Ills friends will wish him success in his new sphere.
