Bulls (holders) .travelled to the local range to defend a challenge by the local Rifle Club for tho McKeivic Cup on Friday night, and wero successful in retaining tlie trophy by a coiniortable margin. The local men all shot beiow recent practice form, J. Simpson register, ng the only possible. U. Lundy and N. -unon scored possible for Bulls.' The scores were as follow :—Bulls: D. I.uady, 67—70—137; N. A moil, 70-67—137; P. ..Thorby, 69-68-137; L. Anderson, 69—67 —136; C. Broughton 68—63—136; L. Huddleston, 68—67 135: J. Hart, 66 —67—133; R. Uob.iison, 65 —66 — 131; li. Bailey, 66 —65 —131; totals, 526 — 536-^-1062. Tho Oliakea Women’s Institute held anolher of their successful social functions in tho hall on Tuesday. The function took the form of a fancy dress and "hard-up” dunce md there was a large attendance. A Monto Curio dance was won by Mrs P. Cole and Mr E. Harris. The winners of prizes for costumes, which were judged bv Miss L. Flavell, were as follow: Fancy costume, Miss Joy-Ellery (Russian Peasant Girl); “Hard-up” costume, Mis B. I* recklington; md Mr 11. Redpnth and Mr M. Klatt equal for the men’s prize. Others presont in costumes were: Mesdames B. Henderson, Spanish Lady; S. Klatt, Japanese I/idy; A. Matthews, Ear.y Victorian; Miss I. Matthews, Imp; Mrs W. Robinson, Nurse; Mrs B. Frecklngion, Hard-up; Mr 11. Redpath and Mr M. Klatt, Hard-up. • The Ohakea Miniature Rifle Club was represented ill the Manawatu championsbips last Wednesday by several members whose scores wore as follow;—F. Simpson, 66 —96—68—230; 11. Ellery, 68—97—64 229 • E. Simpson. 64—98 —66—228. Miss Jean Rasters has returned homeafter a short holiday in Bunnythorpe. Mr G. Osborne is a,way on a motor tour of the Gisborne district.
