SETTLED PROMPTLY.

BRITAIN’S FIRST “STAY-IN” STRIKE. Britain’s first “stay-in” strike lasted three hours. Two hundred and sixty workers at the Woolwich Arsenal ceased work at midday on July 13 and the doors of one of the largest workshops, which , produces bullets and shells, were locked. Stewards representing the men conferred with the department superintendent, who agreed that their grievances would receive a thorough investigation, whereupon work was resumed. The chief point of the dispute related to the system of fixing payment for piecework. The strikers’ representatives state that there was no bitterness and that the affair was settled.
