NEW ZEALAND’S TRADE WITH BRITAIN.
FARMERS’ EUROPEAN TOUR
A party of New Zealand farmers, numbering nearly 40, who have come over to studv farming methods here and in Europe, arrived in London in May, says the London Times. They were welcomed at a luncheon at the Trocodero, Shaftesbury Avenue, bv the High Commissioner of New Zealand, Sir James Parr. Before the partv leave for New Zealand in the middle of July they will have visited Scotland, France. Switzerland, Italy. Austria and Germany. In England visits are being naid to Lord Islington’s farm at Rushbrooke Hall, Bury St. Edmunds: the Royal farm at Sandringham, bv the permission of the King: the annual show of-the Royal Agricultural Society of England at Bristol; Lord Bledisloe s farm at Lvdnev Park; and the Duchy of Cornwall. The tour includes many places of historical inteiest or nat ural beauty, and also covers many lamous bevels ot onttle or sbeo]>. The toast of ‘“The Government ot New Zealand” was proposed at the luncheon by Sir Edmund WyldboreSmith. . , . , ~ , Sir James Parr, in his reply, said he understood that Mr Walter Nash, the New Zealand Minister of Finance, was coming to London soon to arrange reciprocal trading on a better and firmer basis. It was right flint New Zealand shoidd buv from the people who bought from her, and that she should n-ive her trade to Britain rather than to the foreigner. Mr Nash’s idea, he understood, was to negotiate a treaty with Great Britain under which New Zealand should give a larger share of her buying and trade to Britain, and in return England would give a free market to New Zealand goods. He was in agreement with such an arrangement, and had been for years a supporter of a bilateral arrangement between Great Britain and t.hik Dominions.
