FARMERS’ UNION.
MR W. J. POLSON’S WORK PRAISED.
Tribute was paid to the work of Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., as president of the New Zealand ' Farmers’ Union, by the president of the Feilding branch, who moved at the meeting on Saturday that a motion of appreciation be recorded in the minutes of the meeting. \ Mr If. McLeod seconded the motion, which was also supported by Mr 0. G. C. Dernier, who said that never in the history of the union had they had the services of a man who had been prepared to give so much of his time and money as Mr Poison had done. The strong position of the union had been largely due to Mr Poison, and while there were some people who did not see eye to eye with Mr Poison's views the speaker felt that he had done great work for the union. The motion was carried unanimously. YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB. Mr A. Lawson (Kimbolton) made reference to the success of the Kimbolton Young Farmers’ Club movement. He said that 30 members had been enrolled and it was expected that the membership would reach 50 by the end of the year. Members were keen and enthusiastic and at several lectures and demonstrations which had been held there had been good attendances and helpful instruction and knowledge gained. It was gratifying to see that the young men of the district were actively interested in the movement and he hoped that the union would support the movement.
, Mr Mason (the president) in reply said that the union was out to support such movements, which created interest in farming, and knowledge of the science of farming. Mr B. McLeod also supported the idea of assisting the Young Farmers’ Club movement-, and he added that it was the union’s policy to foster the clubs as they were valuable in spreading essential knowledge.
